Valor Econômico - 04/30/2009
Commercial group Zaragoza, which operates in the regions of Vale do Paraíba and Alto do Tietê with the Villarreal Supermercados and Spani Atacadista brands, will invest R$ 25 million (US$ 11.4 million) this year in the inauguration of two other stores, one in the retail sector and a wholesale one. The investment, according to the commercial officer Flávio Almeida, also includes the implementation of a distribution center, which will probably be located in São José dos Campos. The new stores will be located in Taubaté and Atibaia.
With the expansion, the group will have ten units in the Vale do Paraíba, Alto Tietê and Bragantina region. Nearly 650 jobs will be created with the new units of the group in those regions. The new distribution center, on its turn, will centralize all operations of the external sales division (Spani Express), telephone sales delivery, grocery of the Villarreal stores and part of the volume of Lojas Spani. The officer explains he contracted the ABGroup company, specialized in logistics projects, to render consulting services to the group in the implementation of the new distribution center. The forecast of the chain is that the new undertakings will be in operation already in the second half of this year. And these growth plans Zaragoza has are not all. "Our goal is to open from two to three stores a year in the main cities of the Vale do Paraíba region", said Almeida. The group also has some land in Caraguatatuba, on the north coast of the State, where it intends to open a Spani Atacadista unit soon. The focus of the expansion of the Zaragoza chain, according to the officer, will always be aimed at the regions of Vale do Paraíba, the North coast and the Bragantina region. The officer affirms that, in spite of the financial crisis, which mainly affected São José dos Campos, because of the layoffs in Embraer, the businesses of the company continue growing a lot.
