São Paulo Strengthens Support for Circular Economy Projects in Industry
Public and private leaders, along with experts, gather to discuss strategies and public policies
InvestSPInvestSP, São Paulo's investment promotion agency linked to the State Secretariat for Economic Development (SDE), participated in the event "Circular Economy: Industry, Strategy, and Policies" on Wednesday, November 16. The event was organized in partnership with the Federation of Industries of São Paulo (Fiesp), the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN), and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
Held at Casa Firjan in Rio de Janeiro, the event focused on the latest technical guidelines brought forward by the ABNT NBR ISO 59000 standards, which address circular economy practices, and highlighted success stories in implementing these strategies.
InvestSP, represented by Circular Economy Coordinator Natália Biesiada, emphasized ongoing actions in São Paulo to support and promote circular economy projects. These include mapping opportunities and challenges in the sector, providing technical support to companies on regulatory and environmental issues, and collaborating with other government agencies to help shape public policies that encourage circular economy initiatives.
“To meet the state’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, it is essential to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable economy. This involves better waste management, increased recycling, and reducing reliance on virgin raw materials in the production process.
The circular economy in the industrial sector holds enormous potential for new investments, innovation, and job creation—key priorities for InvestSP and the State of São Paulo,” said Biesiada.
Since 2023, InvestSP has been working on strategic development pathways defined by the SDE, including energy transition, circular economy, and strengthening production chains. The agency is also advancing projects focused on developing the hydrogen and biomethane industries, two fuels that can be derived from sugarcane, a major crop in São Paulo.
Recently, InvestSP, in partnership with other organizations, launched the Conecta Biometano SP digital platform, designed to integrate the biomethane supply chain and facilitate access for companies and public agencies interested in energy transition projects, helping them connect with potential suppliers and partners.
