With new R$270m plant, Nestlé aims to double share in pet food market

Nestlé plans to double the size of its pet foodoperation in Brazil by 2020. Owning brands such as Purina, Proplan, Dog Chow, Cat Chow, Revena and Friskies, the company already leads the country's pet food market, with a 17.3% share, according to Euromonitor International. Nestlé open this Friday a R$ 270 million plant in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, focosed on production of wet food for dogs and cats, with capacity to produce 30,000 tonnes per year. The investments are part of a R$ 500 million budget to spend by 2020 in expansion of production and devoleping new pet food lines in Brazil. Fernando Mercê, persident of Nestlé Purina for Latin America, said that, with the new factory, the company will reach 35% to 40% of the total volume produced in the country.
