Spaipa, manufacturer and distributor of Coca-Cola products for the State of Parana and part of the interior of São Paulo, has intensified, in the past years, the investments in its three plants and injected new fuel in the sales and results. If in 2003 it had capacity to produce 13 million boxes of soft drinks a month, in 2009 it can produce twice as much. In the same comparison, the earnings since then jumped from R$ 709 million (US$ 230.8 million) to R$ 1.7 billion (US$ 929 million). For 2009, the growth projected for the earnings is 15%, and another R$ 70 million (US$ 31.8 million) will be used in the areas of production, sales and logistics.
Yesterday, the company inaugurated in Marilia (SP) one of the most modern plants of Coca-Cola in Brazil. After investments of R$ 86 million (US$ 39.1 million), the unit became the third one of the country in installed capacity - it is only behind those of Jundiaí (SP) and Jacarepaguá (RJ). In Marilia, Spaipa had three lines of production, one of glass and two of PET bottles. Now, it has two other lines, one for cans and another one for reusable PET bottles, one of the company bets to reach clients with a lower income, who will then pay for the liquid, not for the packaging. According to Daniel Herbert, Chairman of the Board of Directors, an increase of 5.5% in the sales volume for 2009 is foreseen, a little below the 6.5% increase registered in 2008, because the performance depends, in part, on the variation of the GDP of the country. Besides the setting up of robots, Spaipa opened, in the site, the production of the so-called short finish bottle tops, shorter and economic because they take a lesser amount of resin on the top and in the packaging. Also in Marilia, the company decided to use the 1.5 liter reusable PET bottle that was first tested in Bauru and is currently also sold in other cities in the interior of São Paulo. In addition to that, the unit has the best use of the water among the Coca-Cola franchisees in the country.
