Wilson, Sons expands its facilities in São Paulo
Valor Econômico - 09/09/2008
The gas and oil sources in high sea have stimulated shipyard Saveiros Camuyrano, of the Wilson, Sons' Group, to invest US$ 40 million in its Guarujá's unit, on the coast of the state of São Paulo, for expansion works. With the goal of doubling its industrial capacity, the shipyard is building a series of 11 tugboats and eight PSVs (Platform Supply Vessels), one of them already incorporated to the Wilson, Sons' fleet and another one, "Saveiros Atobá", which will be christened today in the pier of Santos, having as a its godmother Rio Grade do Sul Governor Yeda Crusius. According to Arnaldo Calbucci, director of Tugboats, Offshore and Shipyards of the Wilson, Sons' Group, the investment in the new tugboat, with a national content of more than 60% of its parts, was US$ 25 million. The series is different because it pollutes less and is more powerful for the transportation of 3 thousand tons of cargo. Both are destined to fulfill contracts with Petrobrás. Two other of those pieces of equipment will be delivered until 2010. Four other PSVs are destined to Chilean Magallanes, in the amount of US$ 100 million, to be delivered until 2011, according to the executive. The group studies the feasibility of building or acquiring a new shipyard. One of the possibilities is to create a new facility in Rio Grande (RS), where the company already operates a container terminal. It will be destined to the construction of ships of the AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) type, used in the handling of anchors, tugs and supplies to rigs. The net profit in the offshore segment of Wilson, Sons grew 63.9%, to US$ 7.6 million, in the first semester of 2008, in comparison to the same period of 2007. As for the consolidated income, the high was US$ 182.7 million to US $ 248.4 million, in the same period. The group works in the sector of port terminals, towing, logistics, sea transportation programming, offshore and non-segmented activities, such as the shipyard in Guarujá.
