Volkswagen opens today its new virtual reality center in the plant of São Bernardo do Campo, in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area. The new unit, which is part of the Design & Package area, received investments of R$ 4.2 million (US$ 2.5 million), an amount that is part of a total of R$ 3.2 billion (US$ 1.96 billion) that the maker has planed to invest in Brazil until 2011. Even the international President of the Volkswagen group, Martin Winterkorn, will attend the event for the Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel. With the modern 3D technology, the multipurpose center can simulate the new projects with the simultaneous cooperation of the Volkswagen group virtually. Design experts can adjust shapes and curves of the vehicle without wasting any time. "It is now possible to make several alterations in the automobile without spending much, all in the virtual system", says Gerson Baroni, design and packed manager of the Volkswagen of Brazil. The new 3D system is the most modern projection equipment and the only one used through all Volkswagen units in the world. Besides developing the vehicles that will be produced in Brazil, this service unit can also serve other units of the Volkswagen group.
