Vicunha defines location for new plant in São Paulo

The Vicunha group scheduled for September the beginning of the works of its carbon fiber unit that will be located in Taubaté (SP) in one area donated by the administration of the municipality. The investment foreseen in the project of the new plant amounts to US$ 39.5 million. The setting up of the new plant that should go into operation in July of next year will generate nearly 650 jobs.

In July, Vicunha starts the earth leveling works of the plant. The process of environmental licensing of the unit has already been concluded. The company has received an area of nearly 210 thousand square meters, in which it will develop and produce polyacrylonitrile and carbon fibers. The blended textile materials will cater to the aeronautical, car, nautical, subway and safety markets. The world market of pure carbon fiber moves nearly 60 thousand tons a year and generates earnings of nearly US$ 60 billion. It is a restricted market operated by a few companies. Currently, three American groups, two European ones and three Japanese ones produce the carbon fiber. The Administration of Taubaté has also granted Vicunha 15 years of exemption from the payment of the IPTU (urban property tax) and the ISSQN (Tax on Services of Any Kind).
