Trafotek, a Finnish manufacturer of inductive components for power generation, announced on March 11, the opening of its first manufacturing facility in the Americas, in Itu. The unit is the only manufacturer of filters and reactors with liquid cooling for wind and solar power plants in Brazil, and started operating in late February.

The project relied on the support from Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency associated with the Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation of the state of São Paulo. The company is investing R$ 20 million and hiring 25 people.

“The energy equipment and capital goods supply chain in the State of São Paulo is the most complete in the country, and Trafotek comes to further complement this scenario,” said the president of Investe SP, Juan Quirós. The Agency assisted the company mainly in the dialogue with government agencies and in the identification of tax incentives applicable to the project.
Trafotek was importing its products from Finland and Estonia. The demand for the nationalization of parts met the needs of its own customers, since the tax policies and credit facilities provided by various government agencies favor products made with more than 60% domestic content.

“We are undergoing a growth phase worldwide, and the expansion of the wind and solar energy markets in Brazil has shown that the country would be a good starting point in the region. In the medium term, we see the possibility of further growth on the continent,” said Klaus Franco, director of the new plant.

“Itu celebrates the arrival of another company that will strengthen the generation of jobs in the city. Trafotek stands out for manufacturing reactors for clean energy plants, exploring wind and sunlight. This segment is in line with our ideals of sustainability and quality of life. The assistance provided by Investe São Paulo was important for the city be able to prove its capacity to welcome this company,” said the mayor of Itu, Antônio Tuíze.

According to Franco, the company chose Itu for having easy access to its main customers.
