Toyota speeds up construction of new plant in Brazil

Japanese maker Toyota will speed up the pace of setting up of a new car plant in Brazil, located in Sorocaba, interior of São Paulo. The information was published in the economic newspaper "Nikkei". Toyota do Brasil informed the earthworks are in progress. The maker also said, through an announcement, that it obtained the environmental permit from the Government of the State of São Paulo to start the construction of the new plant. The company now has an assembling unit of the Corolla in Indaiatuba (SP).

The project in Sorocaba foresees the construction of a unit with capacity to produce between 70 and 80 thousand compacts a year. We estimate this number may get to 100 thousand units a year. The forecast is that the plant is ready to produce them in 2012. The investment of the new project is estimated at US$ 700 million. The City Hall of Sorocaba estimates the generation of jobs in the new plant reaches the mark 10 thousand new openings, including the vacancies in the maker and in the 12 autoparts companies.
