Toshiba acquires Camargo Corrêas energy division
DCI - 12/12/2008
Toshiba Corporation, leading world company in the supply of transmission and distribution (T&D) systems and related equipment, made an official announcement yesterday that it has acquired Camargo Corrêa Equipamentos e Sistemas S.A. (CCES), which produces and supplies circuit breakers, switches, panels, protection, control and command systems, substations and lines of transmission and distribution of energy in the Full Turn-Key system, from Construções e Comércio Camargo Correio S.A. (CCCC), a leading company in engineering and construction in Brazil. The negotiations between both companies started early this year and ended in the beginning of this month, with the closing of the transaction. The acquisition will allow Toshiba to expand its operation in the Brazilian market of substations, going on with Toshiba's strategy to strengthen and expand the business of T&D systems in the world. With the closing of the acquisition, CCES changed its name to Toshiba Sistemas de Transmissão e Distribuição do Brasil Ltda. (TSTB). Headquartered in Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, the company is one of the largest producers of components for substations, including circuit breakers and switches. In Brazil, Toshiba already produces transformers at Toshiba Transmissão e Distribuição do Brasil Ltda. (TTDB), in Minas Gerais. The combination of the T&D technologies of Toshiba, including the highly reliable and competitive capacity of production of transformers of TTDB to the capacity of the new company will allow Toshiba to supply, more and more, better solutions for its clients. According to the Toshiba Corporation's representative in Brazil, Masuda Atsushi, the market of substations in Brazil is one of the largest in the world and the acquisition of CCES aims at increasing its share and competitiveness. "We expect to achieve a great synergy between TTDB and TSTB, increasing the capacity of engineering and construction of substations in Brazil and the expansion for the world market", he emphasized.
