Valor Econômico – 08/07/2008

Tecsis, a national manufacturer of aeolic generating blades, will receive a US$ 120 million financing released by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB). The company is currently the second largest in the world in the segment and will use the resources to refinance its debts and carry out new investments in its production lines. The loan announced by the IDB yesterday is also the bank's showcase to show its willingness to finance projects related to renewable energy. The bank's executives Edson Mori and Juan Paredes say that they already have inquiries from foreign manufacturers of parts for the generation of aeolic energy interested in setting up operations in Brazil. The bank, however, is also willing to finance aeolic energy parks. This movement is coming together with the increasing generation of aeolic energy in the country. The first sale of this type of energy will be carried out early next year, and that must increase the number of projects. Today, however, Tecsis sells most of its production of blades for aeolic energy generators to the United States. Set up in the interior of São Paulo, in the municipality of Sorocaba, Tecsis has 4.5 thousand employees. This is the first loan the IDB makes to an industry related to the generation of aeolic energy in South America. The officers of the bank say they are open to new projects and may also finance the phase of survey of the capacity of generation of wind energy. The IDB also makes donations for studies in certain regions and they are currently under negotiation with entities in Minas Gerais. The aeolic energy businesses tend to grow strongly in the world in the next years, according to the IDB study. The global capacity of generation of aeolic energy have already reached more than 100 gigawatts (GW) and, between the years of 2005 and 2007, the increasing of the world average annual capacity of generating aeolic energy was nearly 35%. The aeolic energy units represent approximately 1.2% of the installed capacity of generation of electricity in the entire world.
