The Governor of São Paulo, Alberto Goldman, signed on Wednesday (12/1) an agreement with the municipal government of Sorocaba to release resources that will be invested in the construction of the first facilities of the Technological Park of the city. The agreement foresees the release of R$ 6 million (US$ 3.53 million) of the State Government for the construction of a building that will house an incubator of technology-based companies and the administrative center. The Secretary of Development, Luciano Almeida, and the Mayor of the city, Vitor Lippi, also attended the ceremony.
The Technological Park of Sorocaba will be implemented in an area of nearly 814 thousand square meters, on Avenida Itavuvu, no number, near the Castelo Branco highway (SP-280), in a new industrial area with more than 20 million square meters. The future undertaking will be aimed at the research and development of innovative products and processes in the electro-metal-mechanical, automotive, alternative energy, information and communication technology (ICT) and pharmacy areas.
The resources of the State will be invested in the construction of a 6,656-thousand-square-meter building. The two-story building, with modular structure, will house the Park's administrative center and an incubator for technology-based companies. The place will have all the support required for the setting up of innovative micro and small enterprises. Besides the building of the incubator and the administrative center, the project also foresees the erection of research and development laboratories, spaces for animation and leisure, environments for events and intelligence center of the undertaking. The city hall of Sorocaba also intends to invest in other works, adding 11 thousand square meters of built-up area.
Toyota, the anchor company of the undertaking, started building its third plant in the country, in 2010, in a 400-thousand-square-meter area, located beside the technological park, which should boost cutting-edge research in the car sector. The Japanese maker has the initial expectation of producing, as of 2012, nearly 70 thousand cars a year. The investments planned amount to US$ 600 million, and they should generate nearly 1.5 thousand direct jobs and another 5 thousand indirect jobs.
