SP Government to invest US$ 176.5 million for World Cup

The Governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, said the State of São Paulo will invest US$ 300 million (US$ 176.5 million) so that the opening of the 2014 FIFA World Cup takes place in the capital. "The State Government will perform works in the road system, which are permanent works of overpasses, access routes, that is, works for the region, to the institutional center of Itaquera. There will be reduction in the traveling time on the train and subway. The Stadium of Itaquera, which will be built for the FIFA Soccer World CupTM, will be at the entrance of both. We will have more regular and subway trains; a subway train every 90 seconds, and trains every four minutes", he emphasized, after meeting with the President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff, last Friday (25), in São Paulo. "We are all working with great confidence so that the opening of the FIFA Soccer World CupTM be held here in São Paulo, on the East side, in Itaquera. The financing provided by the National Development Bank (BNDES) is running smooth. The architectural design has already been approved. Now, the municipal administration is wrapping up the land issues and its procedures", said Alckmin, at the end of the meeting. At the meeting, held in the Office of the Presidency in São Paulo, were also attended the Mayor of the capital, Gilberto Kassab, the Secretary for Planning and Regional Development, Emanuel Fernandes, the Minister of Sports, Orlando Silva and the Chief of Staff of the President, Antonio Palocci. At the end of the meeting, Kassab said the works of the Itaquera arena (which will also be the future Stadium of Corinthians) will start in April.
