Solví invests US$ 636.9 million to diversify and double income

Valor Econômico – 08/19/2008

Result of the reorganization of Vega Engenharia Ambiental and Águas do Amazonas, the Solví holding has an ambitious plan to double its earnings until 2012. It plans to achieve R$ 2 billion (US$ 1.3 billion) increasing its presence in the services of water, sewer and solid residues, and make its debut in the sectors of energy and civil construction. The group, which currently has most of its contracts with the public sector, wants to use this expansion to increase its businesses with the private sector. The strategy is to diversify its operations, with an investment estimated in R$ 1 billion (US$ 636.9 million) until 2012, taking advantage of the push the infrastructure sector received since last year with the launching of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). The company bets on areas with deficit in services, such as sanitation, and on those with great need of investments, such as energy. The first project in the energy sector is under implementation in Salvador, in the State of Bahia, with the setting up of a thermoelectric plant in the municipality of Lauro de Freitas' landfill, located in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. For next year, the company intends to have another thermoelectric plant in operation, in the municipality of Caieiras, in the State of São Paulo, and a Small Hydroelectric Central (SHC). With those undertakings, Solví will have an energy complex that generates a total of 80 MW, with the goal of reaching 320 MW until 2012 via the construction of four other thermoelectric plants and nine SHCs. That will cause the participation of the segment in the income of the holding to reach 8%. Regarding sanitation, the intention of the group, which owns Águas do Amazonas, the water and sewer concessionaire of Manaus, is to enter into four other contracts with city governments until 2012, increasing the participation of this sector from 20% to 32% of Solví's income.
