Seminar discusses partnerships with Sweden

During meeting with Swedish Prime Minister, cooperation actions in the areas of science, technology, innovation, environment and sustainable development have been discussed

Governor Geraldo Alckmin received this Tuesday, May 17, at the government of the State of São Paulo (Palácio dos Bandeirantes), the Prime Minister of Sweden, Fredrik Reinfeldt and his party. At the occasion, an international seminar was held to discuss joint actions between the two countries in the areas of science, technology, innovation, environment and sustainable development.

The moderator of the event was the Coordinator of Science, Technology and Regional Development of the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science and Technology of the State of São Paulo, Aurílio Sérgio Costa Caiado, and there were presentations made by the President of the Institute of Technological Research (IPT), João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira; the Scientific Director of the Foundation of Research Support of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp), Carlos Henrique Brito; the Director of Investe São Paulo, Sergio Costa; and the CEO and President of the Swedish Trade Council, Ulf Berg. Also participated in the event the representatives of the Swedish companies Ericsson, Scania, SAAB and Vinnova.

The Swedish delegation was integrated by the Secretaries of State of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister, Gunnar Wieslander and Katarina Areskoug Mascarenhas; the Ambassador of Sweden in Brazil, Annika Markovic; and the head of the Department for the Americas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Lundqvist.

At the meeting, the Swedish delegation was interested in the actions intended for the production of renewable energy, since the European country, great producer of wood, is one of the pioneers in the gasification of biomass and also in the use of ethanol in the public transportation.

Today, there are strong partnerships with Sweden in the area of innovation. The Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems (Vinnova) was instructed to prioritize Brazil in its international operations. In early 2010, Vinnova and the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) jointly organized the Innovation Lab in São Paulo, bringing together universities, companies and Governmental agencies.

 

Concerning the Prime Minister

Fredrik Reinfeldt was born in 1965 and he began his political activities at 18. In 1991, he was elected representative and in 2003 took over the Presidency of the party. At 41, he was elected Prime Minister and he currently holds his second term in office.

During his visit to Brazil, he was in Brasilia where he attended the meeting of the Sweden-Brazil Business Council. At the occasion, Brazilian and Swedish entrepreneurs debated actions to facilitate the doing of businesses between the two countries. In São Paulo, besides the meeting with the Governor, the Prime Minister attended a debate at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) on green economy.
