Seara opens plants and wants higher added value items
Folha de S. Paulo
Marfrig group's company Seara Alimentos opens tomorrow an industrial unit in Jaguariúna (SP) with capacity to produce 8,160 tons of industrialized foods a month. The unit is located in a former poultry slaughterhouse of the group that was transferred to Amparo. The plant, which will produce hot-dog, mortadella and sausage, is part of the company's policy to provide less raw materials and more industrialized product and higher added value.
The choice of Jaguariúna for the plant is due to the privileged location of the region. The company may get fresh raw-material at the poultry slaughterhouse of Amparo - 320 thousand animals are butchered a day - and quickly place the final product in important consumer markets of the country. "The product gets to the regions of São Paulo, Campinas and even to the port of Santos fresher within a few hours", says Mayr Bonassi, CEO of Seara Alimentos.
After 54 years in the business, Seara seeks both the domestic and the foreign market. "Due to our long-term plans, our policy is to distribute half of the products in the domestic market and half of it in the foreign one". The productive unit to be opened tomorrow has demanded an investment of R$ 30 million (US$ 17.1 million) and shall generate 560 jobs, increasing the productive capacity of Marfrig in Brazil by 18%.
