The Pino - Port, Industry, Naval and Offshore, project of one area that goes from Peruíbe to Caraguatatuba on the coast of São Paulo, attracted investments of R$ 6 billion (US$ 3.2 billion) in several port works, mainly in the Santos estuary. The program was debated last week, during the First Forum of Environmental Evaluation of the Coast, in Santos.
"The idea of the Forum is to clearly and democratically discuss, with the community, the programs of investments", declared Casimiro Tércio de Carvalho, coordinator of the Secretariat of State for the Environment.
According to Carvalho, the productive chain, only in its oil segment, features potential of investments for the construction of small- and large-sized shipyards, and supply bases with airports and heliports. Other possibilities would be facilities aimed at the naval industry, implementation and modernization of port, retroport and logistics terminals with export processing zones.
The Oil and Natural Gas Special Commission of the State of São Paulo (Cespeg) understands the coast of the State is naturally inclined to receive, at least, one large- and two small-sized shipyards, besides three supply bases, airports, heliports and industrial areas that would amount to three million square meters. Nonetheless, the increase of these activities involves studies to lessen the environmental impacts, housing supply and demand and transport infrastructure.
The Secretariat of Development, in partnership with the secretariats for the Environment and of Economics and Planning, is responsible for the initiative of the meeting. The Forum held in Santos is the first of a series with the purpose of discussing the elaboration of the Strategic Environmental Planning of the Region of Baixada Santista and the North Coast, which will help in the sustainable growth of the port, industrial and oil and natural gas production activities.
