São Paulo activity increases 1.1%

The Activity Level Index (INA), which measures the performance of the processing industry of São Paulo, increased 1.1% in February, compared to January, after considering the seasonal adjustments. The index is jointly calculated by the Federation of the Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and the Center of the Industries of the State of São Paulo (Ciesp). Without taking into consideration the seasonal adjustment, the activity of the processing industry of São Paulo increased 0.8% compared to January. Compared to February 2008, the INA retreated 15.4%. In the last 12 months, there was stability.
Regarding the level of use of the installed capacity (Nuci) of the processing industry of São Paulo, it reached 77.6% in February, with the seasonal adjustment. The percentage is below the one verified one month before, at 78.6%. In February 2008, the industry of São Paulo used 83.5% of the installed capacity. In the series without the seasonal adjustment, the Nuci stayed at 75.9% in the second month of 2009, below the 76.4% of January and the 81.9% of February 2008.Another indicator of the survey, concerning the real sales of the industry of São Paulo, shows the sales registered an increase of 6.1% in February compared to the previous month, without taking the seasonal adjustment into consideration. In comparison to February 2008, the sales increased 2.9%. In relation to the real salaries paid by the industries of São Paulo, the survey shows they fell 3% in February, compared to January, without the seasonal adjustment. In comparison to February 2008, there was a 0.5% decrease. The survey also showed the real average salary of the sector, on its turn, decreased 1.2% in February compared to January and the hours worked in the production fell 2.3% in relation to January.
