Santos will integrate the São Paulo System of Technological Parks (SPTec), increasing to nine the initiatives with provisory accreditation in the State of São Paulo. The provisory accreditation of the Technological Park that will be implanted in Santos was signed on the 28 by the Secretary of Development of the State of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, with the Mayor of the municipality, João Paulo Tavares Papa.

The park will be located between the neighborhoods of Valongo and Vila Mathias and it will be aimed at the areas of oil, natural gas, port, information technology, environment and logistics. According to the Secretariat of Development, the neighborhoods chosen have inclination to receive technology companies aimed at research and development. Santos has six universities, with 35 thousand enrolled students, besides the Paula Souza Center, which has nearly 6 thousand students in the Technical School of the Baixada Santista and 1.7 thousand students in the Technology Colleges.

For the Secretary, the project will help the Baixada Santista attract investments and job opportunities. "With the exploration of the pre-salt layer, many companies will get installed on the coast of São Paulo and the Technological Park of Santos will be the cradle of a great part of them", he said. In June this year, the Trustee Council of the Technology and Knowledge Foundation (Fundação de Tecnologia e Conhecimento - FTC) of Santos, took office at the headquarters of the Trade Association of Santos. FTC will be the managing entity of the future Technological Park of Santos.

The companies that get installed in Technological Parks will be allowed to take part in the tax incentive program, referred to as Pró-Parques. Institutions of support and companies of technological basis may use the accumulated credits of the ICMS (State Sales and Services Tax) appropriated until November 30, 2010, or defer the tax for the payment of goods and products to be used in the implementation of projects of investment in the Technological Parks and also in the payment of the ICMS related to the import of goods intended for their fixed assets.
