Samsung is concluding the last details of its plan to enter the mobile computers market in the country. Until the end of this year, the electronic manufacturer will begin the production of laptops and Internet modems in its production complex of Campinas (SP). The expectation of the subsidiary is to launch, at first, three models of notebooks, among which an ultra portable one, a machine smaller than ten inches. The three generation (3G) modems, used for wireless connection, will also have different configurations. The device will both be present in Samsung's machines and will be sold separately for use in any computer. Samsung already sold a small amount of laptops in the country, but up until now, everything was imported. In order to build the equipment assembly lines, the company is restructuring its production park in Campinas. The subsidiary has just concluded the construction of a building with total area of 12 thousand square meters. According to Samsung vice-president, Benjamin Sicsú, the area will be used to centralize the production of cell phones. The other areas will be redesigned to receive the new equipment. Three months ago Samsung started the local production of laser printers and multifunction machines, also in Campinas (SP). Until December, the Korean company wants to produce 100 thousand printers in the country, with the expectation to reach 400 thousand machines by 2010. Samsung's domestic production is divided between Campinas and Manaus, which is also going through a restructuring process. Now, with the arrival of laptops in the market, Samsung started being a competitor of the largest PC manufacturers of the country, besides being an HD supplier -. The company also promises to heat the dispute of 3G modems and has already attracted the attention of its Korean rival LG, which should soon start producing access boards. In the footsteps of companies such as Chinese Huawei - which started ahead with the sale of access devices - there are also Motorola and Nokia.
