Sale of chemical products increases 22% until February
DCI
The Brazilian chemical industry ended the first two months of 2010 with growth of 21.95% in the sales of chemicals for industrial use, compared to the same period last year. The increase, according to the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (Abiquim), is justified by the weak base of comparison of the beginning of 2009, in the most adverse period of the world economic crisis.
In the comparison by segment, the only market that had a fall in the two-month period was that of "Other Organic Chemical Materials" with retraction of 0.54% in sales. The segment of thermoplastic resins, on the other hand, increased 30.91% in the period.
The indicator of domestic sales measured by the Abiquim also presented an increase of 10.11% in the comparison between February 2010 and February last year. Regarding the relation between February and January, the index fell 5.93%, because of the lesser number of business days in February. The index also had a fall of 0.94% in comparison of the 12 months.
