With the gradual return to the regular rates in the Excise Tax (IPI), starting in October and going up to January/2010, the car dealerships are getting ready for and expect an increase of nearly 20% in the sales of brand-new cars still in September, besides taking the change to liquidate the stock of used cars, which should become more attractive to the consumer.
At the ChevroletViamar chain of dealerships, with nine units in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, the expectation is that at least 1,300 new cars should be sold in September, compared to an average of 1,100 cars sold a month. "The delivery is fast: there should be no shortage of cars because of a greater demand. Our experience is that the last month of reduction in the IPI always has the greatest sales, and we expect an increase of nearly 20%", explains Sales manager Fábio Spinelli.
The sales of September will also provide a further push to the year-end sales, and another impact will be felt in the sales of used cars, since the price of the new cars should go back to normal. According to Spinelli, so far there are nearly 700 used cars in stock whose sale is reachig only 60% of what is expected.
At Brasilwagen, which has six dealerships and is the largest chain in sales of Volkswagen in São Paulo, an increase of 15% to 20% in the sales in September, compared to August, is also expected. At the Moema District unit, for example, 120 brand-new cars should be sold, compared to 102 units sold in August, according the store supervisor, Eduardo Wilbert. The entire chain sells 800 units a month, on the average. Even though they currently have a stock with 400 to 500 cars, he affirms they should continue receiving cars and they will not have troubles due to the demand.
In relation to used cars, there are 200 cars in stock and the forecast is to increase the sales already in the end of the year, in order to start 2010 with a lower stock. "We have to take advantage of the price incentive and promote it in order to increase the sales and start the year with a lower stock, as we will reduce the costs with maintenance and payment of IPVA (Motor-Vehicle Tax)", he affirms.
