RTB Holding Energia develops solar-thermal project in Rosana

Pilot plant will be integrated into the Complex of Renewable Energies of Porto Primavera. Initiative is supported by Investe São Paulo

Investe São Paulo

RTB Holding Energia – a Brazilian company that is reference in the sector of renewable energy – has announced a project to install a solar-thermal power plant in the municipality of Rosana, in the Metropolitan Region of Presidente Prudente, in the countryside of the State of São Paulo. The initiative integrates the source of solar-thermal energy into the complex of renewable energies of the Plant of  Porto Primavera, owned by Companhia Energética de São Paulo (CESP), located in the same city. The integration will enable the performance of researches referring to energetic sources complementary to solar, wind and water.

With investment linked to the area of Research and Development (R&D) of CESP, RTB had the support of  Investe São Paulo – Agência de Promoção e Competitividade do Estado – in tax-related processes and to mediate with bodies of the government, and is expected to generate 60 direct jobs and 85 indirect jobs in the stages of construction, operation, and maintenance.

“RTB Holding Energia has been developing for many years the research and implementation of projects in renewable energies, since we believe that the insertion of these technologies in the national energy matrix allows, in addition to incrementing projects of environmental sustainability, clean energy, the dissemination of technologies of easy access by consumers to construct and participate in the commercialization of surplus of energy produced, according to the current regulations,” commented Sérgio de Souza, CEO of the company.

Pioneering in Brazil

Named “Implementation of pilot plant through integration of the solar-thermal generation source into the complex of renewable alternative energies of the Plant of Porto Primavera (CESP),” the project is considered strategic by the National Agency of Electrical Energy (Aneel) and is a first in Brazil.

The technology of the 500 kWe pilot plant functions with Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) parabolic mirrors. It also has a tube with thermal fluid to absorb heat and generate steam/energy, solar tracker systems, steam generation systems, and heat storage to send the electrical energy, in addition to an electric generator.

“RTB has an excellent history of work dedicated to renewable energy and this system of integration of energy sources certainly is to expand in a very positive manner across the entire country. And the State of São Paulo can only win with this pioneering,” evaluates the director of the Agency, Sérgio Costa.

The Plant of Porto Primavera was the first to house wind energy units in the State of São Paulo, that is, there are two wind turbines of 100 kW that were designed and installed by RTB in a R&D program also of CESP. The Plant of Porto Primavera also has solar plants with various technologies, a solarimetric station (which measures, mainly, parameters of solar radiation) and an anemotric station (for meteorological measurements and records  and measuring wind speed).

“The municipality of Rosana possesses characteristics that are strongly favorable to produce energy. And the undertaking developed by RTB will bring, therefore, many benefits in the generation of jobs and in advances for the development of research,” added the mayor of Rosana, Silvio Gabriel "Tivo." Another gain, according to him, is for the Energy Engineering students at Unesp – campus of Rosana, as they will be able to deepen their studies in the area.

The works in the implementation stage and by the end of 2020 all stages of the project should be completed. The system will be capable of generating enough energy to supply about 360 houses, with a median consumption of around 180 kWh/month.

About RTB Holding Energia

The company RTB Holding Energia is a groun100% national that operates in all of Brazil. With a large portfolio of equipment, products, and provision of services, it operates in the markets of Energy (Hydroelectric Power Plants, Thermal Power Plants, System of Transmission and Distribution); Sugar and Alcohol; Paper and Cellulose; Oil and Gas; Chemicals and Petrochemicals; and Renewable Energy, being a market reference in its segment.

RTB works in the implementation of EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) projects, involving engineering, procurement, construction, and assembly of projects aiming to offer integration and management of projects in energy and industry in Brazil. As an example, among the various projects executed, there is the 554 kWp Photovoltaic Project installed in the Parks Villa Lobos and Candido Portinari, in São Paulo. It consists in the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the parking lot, of the cafeteria building, on light poles, and on photovoltaic platforms with and without a solar tracker.

The group is based on constant innovation and, currently, has more than 250 professionals. RTB has specialist technicians and engineers, highly qualified and committed to design and manufacture competitive products with the most advanced technology in the market and execute services of the areas that compose its core business.
