Roche studies research partnerships

Last August a group of executives and scientists of Swiss Pharmaceutical Roche came to Brazil to verify, for the first time in the company's history, the Country's potential in the area of research and development (R&D) of medicines, in order to seek partnership opportunities. From this "blitz", as this type of incursion is being called by the company, three projects drew the Roche's attention, said the company's global vice-president of operations Robin Breckenridge to this newspaper. Breckenridge declared that three agreements deals were signed to deepen the analyses on the projects, but he keeps in secrecy which researches interested the company. World leader in the treatment of cancer, Roche invested a record amount of nearly US$ 7 billion in R&D in 2007, an increase of 16% compared to 2006.
