Rhodia aims to double exports of engineering plastics

Valor International

Rhodia, the specialty-chemicals unit of Solvay, plans to expand exports of engineering plastics from its São Bernardo do Campo plant. By the end of the year, the company intends to export 40% of its local production, nearly doubling the volumes of 2015, as a way of offsetting weak domestic demand. Engineering plastics are used in automobiles, white goods, electronics and other consumer goods. The company can produce 50,000 tonnes a year and says it is the leading supplier in a market estimated at 70,000 tonnes a year. Rhodia plans to sell the Brazilian production to India, Iran, Turkey, Korea and China.
