Retail sales grow in SP before the crisis

Before the worsening of the international crisis in the Brazilian market, the commerce of the metropolitan region of São Paulo had a 9.5% high in sales in September compared to the same period of 2007, according to survey of the Fecomércio-SP (Commerce Federation of the State of São Paulo). In the accumulated of the year, the high was 5.4%. For the entity, not only did the segment keep the year's expansion rhythm in September, but short-term trend "should change little", even with the changes of the perceptions regarding the international scenario. In the first nine months of the year, the concessionaires had an 18.9% expansion, compared to a negative result of 28.5% in the autoparts and accessories stores. Among the sectors that also had increases in sales in September are building material (30.5% compared to September of 2007 and 16% in the accumulated of the year), clothing, fabrics and shoes (high of 29.9% in the month and 24.2% in the year), drugstores and perfumeries (15.3% in the month and 4.2% in the year), home appliances and electro-electronics (11.7% in the month and 12.5% in the year) and furniture and decoration (8.1% in the month and 10.8% in the year). With negative performances, the sales of department stores retreated 10.7% compared to last year's same month and 12.6% in the accumulated of the year and supermarkets, fall of 12.5% in the month and 2.6% in the year.
