Productivity grows over the salary this year

Valor Econômico - 04/09/2008

In the 12 months until February, the work productivity in Industry grew 4.6%, accelerating the rythm compared to 2007, when the indicator grew 4.1%. This efficiency increase - both in 2007 and in the 12 months until February - surpassed the average real gain of the salaries, which was 3.1% last year and now retreated to 2.85%, according to a survey published by IBGE yesterday. It is another signal that the growth of the industry occurs in a sustainable way, without relevant inflationary pressures. The difference between productivity and salary went from 1% last year to 1.8. This is equivalent to a drop of 1.7% of the unit cost of work (UCW) in real terms, good news for inflation control. There are some located pressures, as in extractive industries and in the sectors of cock, and oil and alcohol refining, but the general picture is quite favorable.
