Production starts increasing again, indicates IBGEs survey

The performance of the industrial production in July, which advanced 1% in comparison to June and 8,5 % compared July of last year, shows the resumption of a trend of growth in the sector, according to the Braziliam Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The growth also appears in the comparison of bimonthly, quarterly and 12-month accumulated data. The coordinator of the Monthly Industrial Survey (PIM), Silvio Sales, informed that the industrial production in the June-July bimestrial period increased 3.9% in comparison to the two preceding months. The result was the best since the bimester ended in October of 2003, when there was an increase of 6%. There was acceleration also in the quarterly rate, with the data until July accumulating a high of 1.1% in relation to the quarter that ended in June, being the highest rhythm of increase since October of 2007, when it was 2.5%. In 12 months, the growth of the industry went from 6.7% in June to 6.8% until July. The result of July was driven by capital and intermediary goods, which gives more quality to the industry's expansion. As the most comprehensive category of the survey, intermediary goods increased 1.1% between June and July and 7.5% in relation to last year's July. Among the greatest high impacts between June and July, there are other chemical products (4.2%), and tobacco (12.9%). In capital goods, the high was 1.2% over June and 22.3% over July of 2007. At the same time these sectors accelerated their rhythm, the production of consumption goods dropped. Among the principal falls between June and July, there are electronic material and communication equipment, with a 7.6% fall, followed by automotive vehicles, with a retreat of 1.2%.
