The industrial production of the country in November was directly influenced by the result of the industry of São Paulo, which is responsible for nearly 40% of the total, according to the Manager for the Coordination of Industry of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), André Luiz Macedo, who released yesterday the regional result of industrial production. In November last year, compared to October, the industrial production in São Paulo featured the second greatest positive influence for the national result when it increased 1.4%, only behind the State of Paraná, which grew 11.5% in the month. In the same period, the domestic industry stayed practically stable, with a 0.1% fall, since half of the States surveyed presented a fall and the other half stayed positive.
The so high result of Paraná was due to the low basis of comparison, since in the preceding month the industry in that State had fallen 9.6%. The strong oscillation results from the editing and printing sector, since the production of books works according to the orders made. In the monthly comparison, other positive influences were of Rio Grande do Sul, with an increase of 8.3%, and Rio de Janeiro, growth of 5.5%. In the negative side, the greatest influence was registered by industry of Bahia, with a fall of 8.1%. The result was influenced by the stoppage in industrial units of the sector of chemicals. Consequently, the result of the Northeast as a whole was negatively influenced, presenting a retraction of 5.8%, followed by Minas Gerais (-2.5%) and Espírito Santo (-3.1%).
The main indicator to measure the trend of industrial production, the quarterly moving average in November presented a practically stable national result, with growth of 0.1%. Rio de Janeiro stood out, with an increase of 1.6%, due to the processing industry, in automobiles, beverages and pharmaceuticals. According to André Macedo, of the IBGE, São Paulo follows the national performance because it has a more diversified industry. Thus, the moving average of the industrial production of the State was also practically stable, with a slight growth of 0.2% in November compared to October.
In the country, the stability in the recent months results from the greater presence of the imports, and "some sectors with above desirable level of stock". Among the imports, which affect the competition of the national industry, the main sectors that are suffering are those of home appliances and electronics, footwear, textiles and steel. The smaller presence in exports, however, also affects the industry of the country, especially in São Paulo, in the case of the cellular phone sector. According to the Manager of the IBGE, the sector currently has lesser presence overseas due to the lower demand of other countries and also as a result of foreign exchange rate that harms the exports.
