Production of 316 thousand vehicles is the second best of history

Brazilian production of vehicles (cars, commercial vehicles, trucks and buses) recorded an increase of 15.7% (counting the CKDs) in October compared to September, reaching the mark of 316 thousand units. The result means the second best month of the history of the national car industry in terms of production, behind July 2008, month when 318 thousand vehicles left the makers. The increase in the production demonstrates the effort of the industry in replacing the stocks, since in September the consumers ran to the dealerships due to the last month of the full discount in the Excise Tax (IPI), which gradually returned in October, and that is scheduled to be fully back in 2010. The balance of the sector was disclosed by the National Association of Motor Vehicles Manufacturers (Anfavea) yesterday.

Even with the increase in the production, the stocks remain outside the comfort zone, according to the entity. Altogether, the cars are, on average, stopped for 22 days - adding the time the cars stay at the dealerships and at the parking lots at the makers - before being sold. In September, the average was 17 days only. According to the President of the Anfavea, Jackson Schneider, the ideal stock will be reachd in the coming months.

Another factor that has also interfered in the increase of the production was the positive performance of segment of trucks. 12.8 thousand units were produced last month compared to September's 11.5 thousand ones. Compared to the same month of last year, on the other hand, the decrease still gets to 27.4%. "We are clearly seeing a trend of recovery", said Schneider. According to the Executive, the fall compared to last year is still significant because of the exports, which have not presented improvements. "The export market is very important for the truck segment. Some makers dedicated 50% of their production to the foreign market", he said.

The positive figures should lead the Anfavea to increase its growth forecast for the domestic market in 2009. Schneider has not advanced the extent of the increase, but he said that the growth projection of 6.4% compared to 2008 for the internal market may be surpassed. In early December, the Anfavea may change its estimate, besides disclosing their expectations for the automotive market in 2010.

In October, the car makers hired 257 people, registering the fourth consecutive month with improvement in the employability of the sector. In total, the sector employs 106,9 thousand people. However, even with the production increase there are nearly 8 thousand people less than in the figures of October of last year.
