The Brazilian industrial production grew 0.4% in March, in relation to February, in the series with seasonal adjustment, according to a research published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) yesterday. In comparison with last year's March, the production expanded 1.3%. With March's result, the industrial production closed the first quarter of the year with a 6.3% growth compared to the same quarter of 2007. In the accumulated of 12 months closed last March, the production increased 6.6%. The figures show a « positive image, yet marked by a smaller expansion rhythm », according to IBGE. According to the Institute, the industrial production deceleration in March was big, considering that, in February, in comparison with last year's same month, the expansion was 9.7%. In March, however, in the same comparison basis, the growth was 1.3%. IBGE's industry coordinator, Silvio Sales, remarked, however, that the deceleration was already relatively expected, partly because the month of March of this year had two working days less than last year's March. In addition to this, the strike of the Federal Revenue's fiscal auditors made the entrance of raw materials and imported components difficult, hampering production.
