Plants of the west of SP and MS create company

Valor Econômico – 05/08/2009

Twenty-five sugar and alcohol plants of the western region of the State of São Paulo and of Mato Grosso do Sul announced, on Thursday, the creation of the Brasil Etanol Business Center (Brasil EBC), with headquarters in Araçatuba (SP).

At this first moment, the newly-created company should not act as a trading, but as a channel to organize the information system about the offer and demand of ethanol, offering subsidies so that the member companies decide on the sale, affirmed Fernando Perri, who is ahead of the company.

According to Perri, Brasil EBC will be a service company. If it grows, it may even become a trading in the future. The disorganization and the strong expansion of the sugar and alcohol production in the regions of West of São Paulo and of Mato Grosso do Sul, which in recent years received hefty investments for the construction of new units, led to the creation of the new company, according to Perri. "We hope other plants from these regions join us in the next months", said the officer.

The expectation is that these 25 plants represent, in the average term, 10% of the production of ethanol sold in the Center and South of the country. The region should harvest nearly 550 million tons of sugarcane in the 2009/2010 harvest. The production of ethanol should achieve 26.3 billion liters.
