Petrobras to open 3 ports and 3 airports by 2016

To provide support to the pre-salt operations, Petrobras intends to inaugurate three new ports and three airports between 2014 and 2016, said the General Manager of the Exploration and Production of the company, Ricardo Albuquerque Araújo, in a lecture at the Rio Oil & Gas. In accordance with the schedule of the company, the New São Tomé Airport (RJ) and the port of Ubu (ES) will be inaugurated in 2014. In 2015, an airport and a port in Santos (SP) should go into operation. And, in 2016, an airport in Itaguaí (RJ) and a port in Itajaí (SC) should be inaugurated.

"The perspective of growth of the logistics of Petrobrás in the next five years is of 100%", he said, stressing out that the logistics has to keep up with the pace of growth of the production, which will be increased from the current 2.7 million barrels a day to 5.3 million in 2020, an increase of 7.1% every year. Araújo also commented that to take the staff and equipment to the operations in the pre-salt of the basin of Santos - located 300 km from the coast - the company will bet on the use of logistic hubs, which work as distribution centers. According to him, the number of passengers carried every year by the company will go from 800 thousand to 1 million by 2016, and the volume of cargo will increase from 400 thousand tons a year to 1 million by 2020.
