Petrobras to extract hydrogen from biomass

Gazeta Mercantil – 03/25/2009

Yesterday Petrobras announced, together with Ergostech and the Japanese Sapporo, the launching of a joint project in Brazil to extract hydrogen from biomass residues and use it later as energy. According to Sapporo, it is the first time in history someone tries to take hydrogen from biomass residues through a pilot extraction facility with an internal space of only 1 cubic meter. The experiment will try to take a step ahead in the attempt to make the production of hydrogen cheaper, which is considered by many the ecologic fuel of the future. The three companies will start the project a provisory way and as a step prior to the sale of the hydrogen are able to produce.
