Paulista railway mesh gives room for ALL to grow in industrial cargo

Gazeta Mercantil - 08/13/2008

The goal of América Latina Logistica (ALL) is to increase the transportation of industrialized products in the next two years. Presently, 30% of all activity in the company's rails is industrialized cargo. Financial and investor relations director Sérgio Pedreiro explained that with the railway mesh of the old Brasil Ferrovias the transportation of grains became more representative in the company's results. Until the company's purchase, ALL used to keep an average of 50% of industrialized cargo. "We will have many opportunities, mainly in the mesh of the state of São Paulo. We invested a lot to increase the transportation capacity of this stretch", said Pedreiro. In the second quarter the transported volume of industrialized products grew 14%, with growth in all segments, specially cement and fuel. "We are pursuing our path of growth in the intermodal volumes, with increases of 19% in foods, 17.3% in forest products and 13.8% in containers. In the exclusively railway flows, the construction cargos had an increase of 18.4%, affirmed Pedreiro. In the first semester ALL transported 16 billion tons per useful quilometers (TKU) in the country, a volume 18.2% superior to that from the same period of 2007. The executive added that ALL already invested R$ 325 million (US$ 207 million) in the first semester of this year, most of such fund having been used in the railway mesh of Brasil Ferrovias. ALL foresees to invest R$ 700 million (US$ 446 million) per year. The high of the agricultural harvest pushed ALL's results in the second quarter of this year. The company had a consolidated net profit of R$ 105 million (US$ 66.9 million), which is 91.6% superior to that from last year's same period, when the company had a profit of R$ 55.3 million (US$ 28.7 million). ALL Brasil had growth of 87.7% in profits, going from R$ 58.8 million (US$ 30.5 million) to R$ 110.4 million (US$ 70.3 million). And the net earnings was R$ 673.5 million (US$ 429 million) in comparison to 2007's second quarter's R$ 538.9 million (US$ 279,2 million), a growth of 25%. The Ebitdar (profit before interests, taxes, depreciation, amortization and asset rents) registered in the period was R$ 376.7 million (US$ 240 million), 22.5% superior to the second quarter of 2007. The Ebitda registered a growth of 30% to R$ 336.4 million (US$ 214.3 million), because of a diminution of wagon renting.
