Oxiteno invests US$ 31.9 million in acetates

Oxiteno has decided to increase its acetate production. In view of that, the manufacturer of chemical specialties of the Ultra group took off the drawer a project of R$ 51 million (US$ 31.9 million) in investments to install a new line of production in Mauá, in the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo. Within the scope of the project, Oxiteno foresees the increase of its volume of production in more 40 thousand tons per year, more than twice the current capacity of the production line, currently near 32 thousand annual tons. The new unit, which should be ready in the second half of 2009, should meet the demand of the sectors of cars, civil construction and packing, explained the company in an announcement. Acetate is used for producing solvents, paints, perfumes and varnishes. The new line of production of Oxiteno is part of the R$ 650 million (US$ 406.3 million) of investments for the period between 2008 and 2009. Among other projects there are increasing the production of ethene oxide, ethoxylates, ethanolamines and the new unit of oleochemical products. Ultra bets on the strengthening of its area of chemical specialties, where there are better margins than in the products that are commodities.
