Online company of Pão de Açúcar sells US$ 1.53 billion in 2010

Nova Pontocom, e-commerce company of the Pão de Açúcar group that gathers the online operations of Extra, Ponto Frio and Casas Bahia, closed last year with sales of R$ 2.7 billion (US$ 1.53 billion). The number represents an increase of 56% on the result of 2009, according to the President of Nova Pontocom, Germán Quiroga. The new company wants to grow, this year, between 30% and 50% more than the retail market on the Internet. According to the consulting firm e-bit, the growth of the segment will be of 35%. "There is a lot of room for the e-commerce to grow in Brazil. Today, half of the population is on the Internet and one-third of it is of e-shoppers", says Quiroga. According to him, the company holds 18% of the online retail, only behind B2W (union of Americanas.com and Submarino.com).
