Nestlé Brasil should invest R$ 1 billion (US$ 556 million) a year in order to double the size of the company over the next five years. "A new plant at every 3% of growth. This way we can grow two digits while the GDP grows 5%", said the CEO of Nestlé Brasil, Ivan Zurita, during an interview after his lecture on sustainability to the businessmen of Grupo de Líderes Empresariais (Group of Business Leaders) (Lide) held yesterday, in São Paulo. "We stood up to the crisis and grew 11.2% last year for R$ 16.4 billion (US$ 9.1 billion) in earnings in more than 350 thousand points of sale throughout the Country. It was the best result of the company in the recent years and with that we surpassed France and Germany, and we are in second place, only behind the United States, and that is very important, we gained relevance in the international scenario, we came out of the crisis much stronger", informed Zurita.

The CEO talked about the location of the new plants. "The choice of the States where are the new plants will be located is related to logistics and to the nearness to the raw-material, so we have recently announced investments in Minas Gerais and now in Goiás, but other regions are also receiving investments", he explained and completed giving examples: "we are investing R$ 100 million (US$ 56 million) in the unit of refrigerated dairies of Garanhuns [PE]; we will increase the productive capacity of Leite Ninho and powdered chocolate at the unit of Itabuna [BA]; we have built a new plant in Araraquara [SP] in just seven months that produces the line of condensed milk and UHT Ninho and Molico; we have concluded the acquisition of the milk processing unit of Carazinho [RS]; that without speaking of the new plant of Araçatuba [SP] that produces NAN, Nestogeno, Mucilon and milk cream, that is, every 3% of growth motivates us to establish a new plant, after all, we already process 15 million tons of raw-material from the agribusiness", said Zurita.

The President of Nestlé considered that other segments also deserve attention. "Besides dairies, we will doubled our productive capacity in the sector of beverages, the Sollys line made from soy is doing very well, and we have invested R$ 60 million (US$ 33 million) in the plant of Chocolates Garoto in Vila Velha [ES] and we are already exporting Garoto chocolate candies to Africa and China", detailed Zurita.

According to the Executive, much of the growth is associated to the upward mobility of the social classes. "The mix of products is the same, we only changed the portions that are different in order to form an affordable price and we implemented a door to door operation with eight thousand saleswomen, which already represents R$ 1 billion (US$ 556 million) in sales and provides an average income of R$ 1 thousand (US$ 556) for each worker", informed Zurita. According to him, the company also assured the expansion in classes A and B. "We have to act quickly and work with products in all social classes, thus, in our other sales front, we are expanding the chain of Nespresso and Dolce Gusto stores".
