Nestlé do Brasil plans growing at least the double of the GDP this year

DCI – 02/13/2009

"We need to grow at least the double of the GDP, but we are not here merely to keep the status quo, we need more than that", the statement was made by the CEO of Nestlé in Brazil, Ivan Zurita, during an event held in São Paulo. The executive also affirmed the main concern of the multinational company in relation to the crisis is the maintenance of jobs, because without it the economy is damaged as a whole. The executive confirmed the company reached the estimations for the end of 2008, which should be officially announced within the next weeks. Zurita talked to the press during the launching event of a partnership of the company it leads in Brazil and Arno, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto, which consists not only in one line of coffee-based beverages but also in the launching in Brazil of an exclusive coffee machine for such products. According to the CEO of Arno, Márcio Cunha, the project of the machine with the special beverages already exists abroad for nearly two-and-a-half years. The machines are currently produced in China and will be imported at a suggested final cost of R$ 599 (US$ 260), but there is nothing preventing it from being produced here in the future, according to Cunha. "We project earnings of nearly R$ 40 million (US$ 17.4 million) in three years", he affirmed. Nestlé, on its turn, plans on selling nearly R$ 200 million (US$ 87 million) within the next three years with the sale of what the company calls "capsules" which contain the mixture for the coffee-based beverages. Starting in March Nescafé Dolce Gusto will be available for sale in São Paulo and in the Southern Region of the country, in the supermarkets chains, and in specialized home-appliance stores. The product will include a welcoming kit containing a glass for Latte Macchiato, a cup for Cappuccino and 16 different capsules for consumers to savor the products at home. The capsules will be also found in self-service stores.
