Motorola to produce its tablet in Brazil
Folha de S. Paulo
Xoom, iPad rival presented by Motorola at the Consumer Electronic Show, will be produced in Brazil, where it should start being sold in mid-April. The intention of the company is to have the product, in the Wi-Fi version, available for the season of sales prior to Mother's Day. "That is the paranoia of company", said Sergio Buniac, VP of mobile products for Brazil and Argentina. "We are well on schedule for that", he added.
The 10.1-inch screen Xoom, little bigger than the iPad, with a much more powerful processor, and two cameras (one on the front for video-conferencing), will be produced in the plant of the company in Jaguariúna, interior of São Paulo. The Executive said he does not have much more details besides that. On the price, for instance, he only says it "will be competitive in relation to the iPad".
The Wi-Fi version gets first to the market and it should be sold in the stores; the 3G version, which will be made available later, should be sold in partnership with the cell-phone operators.
