Mercado Livre triples size of distribution center in Louveira
Company invests in expanding the space and expects to hire more than 1.3 thousand professionals during all phases; project was supported by Investe São Paulo
Investe São PauloMercado Livre, the leading company in the supply of technology to electronic commerce in Latin America, celebrates the results of operation Fulfillment, started in August 2017, and announces the expansion and modernization of its distribution center located in Louveira, in the countryside of the State of São Paulo. The objective is to make the logistics for the marketplace sellers faster and more efficient and, to this end, it increased the space of operations from 17 thousand square meters to 51 thousand square meters. During all phases of the project, the expectation is that more than 1.3 thousand new job vacancies will be created.
The Fulfillment is a service model that manages the storage, packing and delivery of the products of several sellers, from the distribution center (DC) of Louveira, in addition to post-sales and customer services. In the first semester of this year alone, the operation increased tenfold, both the number of sellers using the service and the volume of shipped products.
“We are constantly evolving to offer a service that gets better and better for people who buy and sell on the platform, and the investment to expand the distribution center is another step for us to increase the supply of Fulfillment and ensure a faster and more efficient delivery to our users. Furthermore, we were satisfied with the generation of job opportunities to the citizens of Louveira and region,” adds Leandro Bassoi, director of Mercado Envios, the logistics unit of the company.
The project of modernization is supported by Investe São Paulo – Agência Paulista de Promoção de Investimentos e Competitividade – in the assistance with government bodies. “We are very glad to contribute to this innovating project. Mercado Livre is more than a reference in online sales, one of the fastest growing sectors in São Paulo,” explains the director of Investe, Sérgio Costa.
In the Administrative Region of Campinas, which Louveira is a part of, Investe São Paulo has already supported 80 projects, which amount to R$ 13 billion and 18 thousand new job vacancies, especially in the sectors of Manufacturing Industry, Automobiles and Machinery and Equipment.
