In the arrangements of the retail for the Christmas sales, shopping mall storeowners speed up the hiring of temporary workers for job openings in customer service, and as salesperson, stock person and cashier. This end of year, a survey made by the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (Abrasce) indicates 180 thousand job positions will be open in shopping malls in the Country. Compared to last year, there will be a 25% increase in the number of jobs created in stores and administrative areas of the establishments (safety and cleaning). The growth of the offer of temporary jobs in the end of the year is a reflex of optimism the retail is going through, the inauguration of 11 new shopping malls and success in the sales of presents on Children's Day, which grew 10% this year compared to last year.
According to Jonas Fortes, Superintendent of Shopping Metrô Itaquera, the growing demand of clients in the establishment, mainly in the next two months, with the arrival of Christmas decorations and the launching of the promotional sales for the New Year parties will require the hiring of 900 people to work only during the period between November and December. In total, the shopping mall retailers want to hire 250 temporary workers more than in 2008.
At Shopping Center Norte the trend is also of increase in the hiring, nearly 20% compared to the same period of last year, which corresponds to 1,200 temporary job opportunities to cater to 189 thousand customers a day during the next two months, growth of 5% compared to last Christmas. Also in the capital of São Paulo, the shopping malls Pátio Paulista and Tatuapé have storeowners with nearly one thousand job positions (in each mall) and those interested in a filling a position should apply directly to the storeowners.
For Guilherme Dietze, Economist of the Fecomércio-SP (Federation of Commerce of the State of São Paulo), the hiring of workers in the retail should end the year with a balance of 58,000 to 60,000 jobs, 7% more than in the previous year. For him, the growth in number of job positions available in the commerce is the result of the good moment the retail is going through with the increase of the credit for classes B, C, and D, which should mainly buy electronic products.
A survey made in September by the Fecomércio-SP shows the retailers are optimistic for the end of the year. In the first Christmas after the crisis, 77% intend to increase or maintain the orders for Christmas. 39% say their inventories will be greater than last year and 44% intend to keep the same as in 2008.
