The growth of logistics in Brazil begins taking companies of the sector to operate in new niches. Fashion, for example. Created in July 2010 with an investment of R$ 1 million (US$ 625 thousand) from TecniExpress (company with 6 years of operation in the textile market), Log Fashion intends attract all the work of a manufacturer/seller of clothes and accessories that is not directly related to the same end activities it has. This year another R$ 1 million (US$ 625 thousand) will be invested in the company, which expects to grow 50% in period anchored in the boom of the national industry. Since its foundation, the company has already managed to double the earnings.
The company carries, packs, stores, receives the product in ports or airports and ships, catalogs, and even makes the reverse logistics of the parts if necessary. Today, Log Fashion has 110 employees, an own fleet of vehicles and a 10-thousand-square-meter center for the storage and distribution in Carapicuíba, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. It also transports by air. "I'm sure in the coming years the outsourcing of logistics will be a strategic special feature for all companies in the sector", says Marcelo Flório, CEO of the organization.
It was the crisis in the subprime lending, at the turn of 2008 to 2009, which was the kickoff in the trend of outsourcing the logistics on the part of the textile retail, here and abroad. That because it causes mergers and acquisitions of large brands, making many warehousing and distribution centers superfluous. The solution was to sell them to logistics companies, which began rendering services to department stores. Another factor is the characteristic seasonality of fashion. Over time, the companies realized that because of the change in the collections, their warehouses had no use, and much of the manpower was stop. To prevent waste, many chose to outsource their logistics.
"Today, the demand for our services on the part of the textile segment is growing a lot, mainly due to the professionalization of the sector", says Flório. "Mergers and acquisitions of national brands and the coming of international brands to Brazil have generated demand for organizational efficiency, focus on the core business and reduction of costs of the brands. That, plus the perspectives of economic growth in the country and the subsequent increase of consumption causes the current demand for logistics services in the sector to be much greater than the offer".
Log Fashion currently has clients such as Besni, Zorba (underwear manufacturer) and Sandálias Havaianas. And also the Argentine La Martina, which produces and sells sportswear worldwide.
