Life sciences is theme of meeting between British and Investe São Paulo

The state agencies present the British Consulate General in São Paulo and the British Agency of promotion to the exports and investments information on medicine, pharmacy and biotechnology in São Paulo

One of the benefits of the economic development is the improvement in quality of life of the population. Knowing that, the British Government is carrying out a job of gathering of information on the life sciences in Brazil. The life sciences include all areas of knowledge, services and industry related to life, such as medicine, pharmacy and biotechnology.

Last Thursday, February 11, Investe São Paulo held a meeting between representatives of the British Consulate General in São Paulo and the UKTI (United Kingdom Trade and Investment) with representatives of the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science and Technology and the Seade Foundation.

The Manager of International Relations and the Manager of Business Prospection of Investe São Paulo, Luis Fernando Arbex and Renato de Barros Silva, respectively, presented the investment opportunities and incentives of the State Government for the area of research and development in the State of São Paulo. 

The members of the Coordination of Sciences and Technology of the Secretariat for Development, Yolanda Silvestre and Fernando Batolla Júnior, explained the operation of the São Paulo system of technological park (SPTec) and the researcher and coordinator of the SEADE Foundation, Sonia Nahas de Carvalho, presented data of the human life sciences in the city of São Paulo.

The consultant of the UKTI, Richard Porter, said the information presented will be useful for the elaboration of a report that will be sent to the British Government at the end of March. The document will show the situation of the life sciences in Brazil, the impeditive barriers and the business opportunities in the sector. "With all the information I've been gathering plus the information I got here, it is understood the State of Sao Paulo is really committed to the development of the life sciences. I believe English companies will be interested doing businesses in the State", said Porter.

The Director of Investe São Paulo, Sérgio Costa, emphasized the Fapesp (Foundation of Research Support of the State of São Paulo) currently invests 43% of its budget on research in the area of life sciences and São Paulo already has companies that are international reference in medical and hospital equipment.
