Libra negotiates purchase of Cargill and Crystalsevs sugar terminal
Valor Econômico - 11/04/2008
The Libra group, specialized in logistics operations and maritime navigation, is negotiating the acquisition of one of the terminals of the Teag (Terminal of Sugar Exportation of Guarujá) that belongs to Cargill and Crystalsev. The terminal that is in dispute, located in Santos (SP), ships bagged sugar, and is considered strategic for the company, whose work is focused on the exportation in containers. The two companies are controllers of two terminals - one of sugar in bulk, located in Guarujá (SP), and the other of bagged sugar, installed in Santos (SP). The negotiation involves only the Santos terminal, T33. The compound of the Terminal number 33, with 33 thousand square meters of area, can ship 600 thousand tons per year, but with capacity to double this volume. Controlled by the Chilean SCAV group, Libra is the holding that joins all activities of the company, which include operations of port terminals (Libra Group), real estate commercialization (Mauá Realtor), distribution of securities (Boreal DTVM), production of olive oil in Chile (Olivares de Quepu) and industrial production (Providência Company). The Libra group has been increasing its participation in the agribusiness area. The Libra's unit in Cubatão (SP) started operating in June this year, with a structure of storage for freezer chambers. The current structure is capable of storing (poultry, bovine, and swine) meat, besides milk, honey, and fish.
