LG invests in plant in Paulínia

The city of Paulínia, 118 km from São Paulo, will be the seat of the new LG plant in the country, aimed at the production of white line products. The plant marks the entrance of LG in home appliances, market it disputed so far with imported products. As found out by Valor, the investment in the project should turn around R$ 500 million (US$ 294 million) and R$ 600 million (US$ 353 million) over seven years. In the period, 4,000 jobs will be generated among employees of LG and of three of its suppliers that will also get installed in the place.

For the construction of the new plant, Mayor José Pavan Júnior sent a Bill to the City Council for the donation of the land to the company. It is expected that the project be approved until the end of January, when the works at the site should be started. LG expects the new plant, initially dedicated to the production of stoves and refrigerators, to be in operation until the end of 2011. The Korean multinational already has two plants in Brazil: one in Taubaté (SP), where it produces cell phones, monitors and notebooks, and one in Manaus (AM), where it makes the audio and video and air conditioner lines.
