Lanfranchi to operate for Barclays in SP

Valor Econômico

Barclays Plc, the third largest bank of the United Kingdom, appointed Ricardo Lanfranchi, former-president of the primary brokerage division of Merrill Lynch & Co. in Brazil, as stocks sales director in the Brazilian market, the largest of Latin America. The appointment is part of the strategy of London-based Barclays to increase its presence in Latin America after the purchase of the brokerage division of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in North America last year. Lanfranchi joins the more than 450 employees hired for the international stocks division of the bank since September, said Sarah Naegele, spokeswoman of Barclays in New York.

The Brazilian stocks attracted a record volume of international investments last month, influenced by perspectives that the greater lowering of the interest rate and the recovery of the international economy will leverage the corporate profits. The Bovespa Index has grown 41% this year. The transactions with stocks increased at an average of 339,901 businesses a day in Brazil last month, until May 27. That means a 28% increase in relation to January and it is 0.7% above the previous record, achieved in October last year, according to the data of the Stock Exchange.
