IPT inaugurates gas laboratory

Agência FAPESP

The Institute of Technological Research (IPT) launched on Thursday (10/28) the Laboratory of Systems of Compressed Air and Gases (Lasag), developed in partnership with the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association (Abimaq) with investment R$ 1.1 million (US$ 647,1 thousand). This is the first unit of the country aimed at examining equipment and parts used in compressed air systems and gases transportation such as compressors, filters, valves and dryers, among others.

"The industry, manufacturers and hospitals needed a technical body that would characterize, through reliable tests and equipment and compressed air systems both in terms of product performance and quality of the air", said Kazuto Kawakita, director of the Center for Metrology of Fluids (CMF) of IPT, which houses the new laboratory.

Currently, the tests of this equipment are performed by contracted companies or the manufacturers themselves.  "The tests conducted by Lasag will have the differential of being developed by an institute that has proven credibility and market recognition", said Jayme Bydlowski, chairman of the Lasag project execution committee.
