InvestSP Discusses Transition Strategies for a Low-Carbon Economy

The agency supports decarbonization projects in transportation and clean energy

InvestSP

On October 23, InvestSP—the São Paulo State Investment Promotion Agency, linked to the state's Department of Economic Development (SDE)—will participate in the “5th FEI Congress on Innovation and Megatrends 2050: Energy and Sustainability for Life,” hosted by the FEI University Center in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo.

Represented by Energy Transition Specialist Davi Lopes, InvestSP will play a key role in discussions about strategies and solutions for transitioning to a low-carbon economy, bringing together representatives from government, the private sector, and civil society.

Aligned with São Paulo's development goals, which include decarbonization, energy transition, and circular economy initiatives, InvestSP has been actively involved in supporting the government in formulating policies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. These efforts are in partnership with the state's Department of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (SEMIL).

InvestSP also provides assistance to the private sector in developing energy transition projects for facilities and processes. For example, the agency is promoting the use of alternative energy sources like hydrogen and biomethane, which can be derived from sugarcane.

“As the world’s largest sugarcane producer, São Paulo is poised to lead the global energy transition. We aim to foster dialogue and propose actionable solutions that encourage both the private sector and public institutions to collaborate strategically,” said Davi Lopes.

Conecta Biometano SP

In September, InvestSP, in partnership with SEMIL, launched the digital platform Conecta Biometano SP, designed to connect stakeholders in the biomethane supply chain with those interested in developing decarbonization projects.

The initiative also has the backing of the SDE, the Department of Agriculture and Supply (SAA), the Brazilian Biogas Association (Abiogás), the Sugarcane Industry Local Productive Arrangement (Apla), the São Paulo Federation of Industries (Fiesp), and the Sugarcane Industry Union (Unica).

Producers, suppliers, service providers, equipment manufacturers, research entities, and even banks that finance these projects can register on the platform. It will help companies and public officials identify potential suppliers and partners for energy transition projects that utilize biomethane
