Investe SP participates in a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee for Business, Innovation and Skills of the UK

President of the agency explained to parliamentarians what is the role of Investe SP and presented the competitive advantages of the state of SP; Committee’s goal is to double UK exports to Brazil in three years

The President of Investe SP, Luciano Almeida, and the director of Institutional and International Relations of the agency, Sérgio Costa, participated in a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee for Business, Innovation and Skills of the UK at the British Consulate in São Paulo on Wednesday, May 9.

According to the Committee Chairman, Adrian Bailey, the aim of parliamentarians is to analyze the business environment in Brazil to implement actions that allow the achievement of the goal of doubling UK exports to Brazil in three years, as well as fostering British partnerships and investments in the country.

The president of Investe SP explained that the agency is seeking to build partnerships with companies, universities and institutions in the UK so that they contribute, with their expertise, to the development of the state of São Paulo. “Our focus is especially on five strategic sectors: oil and gas, health and life sciences, aerospace and defense, green economy and information technology,” said Almeida.

He said that in the green economy sector, for example, the state aims to reduce by 20% the emission of greenhouse gases up to 2020, compared to 2005. As for the oil and gas sector, at least 60% of the production chain items of the companies should come from industries operating in the country. “Currently, only with the local technology, we are not able to achieve these goals. Therefore, they are excellent opportunities for the companies to explore,” he concluded.

Technology Research Institute
The Corporate Relations manager of the Institute for Technological Research (IPT), Eduardo Valle, also attended the event. He showed to parliamentarians the institute’s areas of operation, highlighting the importance of partnerships with British universities to enrich the professional experience of researchers from the IPT. The institute has established exchanges with the Imperial College London and the University of East Anglia, in order to bring to the institute the most advanced technological knowledge in the world.

Valle also made available the services of IPT to investors and British institutions, showing that the institution can contribute to the development of new technologies in small, medium and large companies, assisting in the process of obtaining patents and in the relationship with major universities in the country (USP, UNESP and UNICAMP).
